Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Whip ("the Application", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our mobile application and related services. We are committed to protecting your privacy and limiting data collection only to what is strictly necessary for the Application's functionality. We do not sell your personal data.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information You Provide to Us
- Profile Data: When you create a public profile, we collect your display name (nickname) and bio.
- Garage & Equipment Data: Information you enter about your bicycles, including brand, model, technical specifications (e.g., wheel size, travel), and suspension settings (e.g., PSI, clicks). We also store the service history of your components (Maintenance Tracker).
- Physical/Health Data: To provide accurate calorie burn and heart rate zone analysis, you may voluntarily provide your age, weight, height, and gender.
- Social Content: Any comments, replies, or reports you post within the community section.
b. Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: The Application requires access to your device's location (GPS) to track your speed, distance, and route. This includes background location access, as the Application must continue recording telemetry even when the screen is off or you are using other apps during a ride.
- Sensor Data: We collect data from your device's accelerometer (to detect jumps and G-force) and barometer (to measure altitude changes).
- Heart Rate Data: If you connect an external Bluetooth heart rate monitor, we process your real-time heart rate during recording locally on your device.
- Device Information: We collect technical details such as your device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for crash reporting and analytics.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information strictly for the following purposes:
- Core Functionality: To record your MTB sessions, calculate metrics like "AirTime", "Flow Score", and visualize your route on maps.
- Maintenance Tracking: To calculate the wear and tear of your bicycle components based on recorded mileage and usage time. This processing happens locally on your device.
- Community & "Bike Check": To allow you to share your rides. When you publicly share a ride, a snapshot of your bike's configuration (including suspension settings) used during that ride may be visible to other users.
- Service Improvement: To analyze crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics) and usage patterns (via Firebase Analytics) to improve the Application's stability.
- Weather Integration: We use your approximate location to fetch local weather conditions during your ride via OpenWeatherMap.
3. Data Storage and Retention
- Local Storage (Default): Your detailed telemetry, heart rate data, garage details, and maintenance logs are stored locally on your device by default. We do not have access to this data unless you explicitly choose to upload it.
- Cloud Backup (Private): If you use the "Cloud Backup" feature (PRO version), your local database is encrypted and stored on your personal Google Drive account (App Data Folder). We do not have access to these files.
- Public Data (Community): Only rides you explicitly choose to "Share" are uploaded to our Firebase Firestore database and are visible to other users. You can delete your shared rides at any time.
4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. We share information with third-party service providers only as necessary to provide the Application's infrastructure:
- Google Play Services: For authentication, maps, and location services.
- Firebase (Google): For backend infrastructure (Firestore), push notifications, analytics, and crash reporting.
- AdMob (Google): To display advertisements in the LITE version of the Application. AdMob may collect device identifiers to show relevant ads.
- OpenWeatherMap: To provide contextual weather data for your rides.
5. Your Rights (GDPR/RODO)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- The right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you.
- The right of rectification.
- The right to object to or restrict processing.
- The right to data portability.
You can manage your public data by deleting your shared rides or comments directly in the Application. Local data can be deleted by clearing the application data or uninstalling the Application.
6. Safety and Security
We implement industry-standard security measures (including HTTPS/TLS encryption) to protect your data during transmission and storage. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
7. Disclaimer
The Application is provided "as is". The Developer is not responsible for any injuries, damages, or equipment failures that may occur while using the Application. Riding mountain bikes involves inherent risks; please ride responsibly and within your limits. Telemetry data is for informational purposes only.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
